So tell us about yourself and your brand?

- My name is Christian Vidaurrazaga, I am 27 years old and started the brand when I was 23. I am from Guaymas a little town in the state of Sonora Mexico, I came to the States when I was 7 and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Visual Communications by the time I was 20. I have been an independent graphic artist for about 7 years and started my clothing line due to the fact that I had a lot of designs stored in my hard drive and I felt the need to do something with them. Our brand is called DIMEX and it was founded around 2007 as a side project of mine while I worked a regular 9-5 job, fortunately it has become more then a project it has become my way to share our message to you, the message “LUCHA Y VIVE” or Fight and survive. Fight or work for what you believe in and with time everything will pay off.

How did you come up with the name?

- The name came up when I started doing freelance work for other companies so in order to present my self professionally I had to come up with a name for the company I was representing. Right away I thought about how much I have admired the huge Mexican corporations that their name ended with an “MEX” so I put the word “Diseño” which means design “Mexicano” Mexican together creating DIMEX for short. Later on when the brand started growing the name DIMEX stood and took over the identity of our brand. I go as Vectomex now when it comes to my independent graphic design jobs.

What best describes you line and who is it targeted to?

- Iconic Latino pop culture that is seen in every day life as a Latino or a person living In or near a Latino community. Our brand grabs imagery that symbolizes and tells a very important story about our way of life in the USA. The goal is to educate and express culture through our apparel. Each shirt tells a story, educates and reminds our fans of the “cultura”. Our market is mostly Latino but we like to keep it open to every one since the message is the same in every language.

What influenced you start this line?

- Honestly all my designs and concepts I had and still have pilling up in my hard drives, sketch books, and notepads. I really wanted to share them with the world some how. Also the message, it’s a very positive one that helps drive a person to become a better self and motivates to succeed in what ever you love to do. All of this is hidden inside our designs and brand. Secondly, for the fact that I am doing what I love and not working 9-5 job, I have nothing against that if that works for you then great but working for yourself designing what you like an sharing it with the world is one of the best feelings out there. The reason I think like this is because as I grew up I saw my dad working very hard in the warehouses picking up boxes and loading trucks, he told me “Go to school, get an education, so you don’t have to be working your ass off like me” when it comes to motivation until this day I remember those words and still keep them in my mind. Lastly, I saw and understand that my parents had to leave everything back at the home land, they took on the journey and adventure for a better life for me, they brought me here to succeed and until this day that’s what I’m striving to do.

How is your brand different from others out there?

- Our brand is different from others for the fact that we have a positive even educational message behind every design, in a market that is full of “Machismo” and negative messages I think our brand does it’s job in standing out with cool imagery and a dope concepts. Our brand introduces new characters that were part of history at some time in a sick and modern way. Quetzalcoatl, The Aztecs, Emiliano Zapata, The Mayans and many characters like this make up the imagery of our brand, history classes will never be boring again.

Are there any challenges you run into while running a business?

- Many. I have to deal with issues any small business owner had to go through. Capital, advertising, design, production, marketing, social networking, planning, talking in public, selling, motivating and getting motivated, taking risks, decision making, not paying myself for a while, investing all of my earnings and cleaning the office every now and then. But running a brand wouldn’t be what it is without any of these challenges, every one would be doing it and what I mean by that, really doing it. Work isn’t work when you are having fun, I can work for hours and hours and still not be done for the day.

What ways did you find promoting your brand worked?

- For me Social Networking is a huge part of it, going to events and selling our product, also owning your own store is a huge plus, giving a lot of T-shirts away to the right people help a lot since they expose your brand to people that you would never be able to reach unless you are huge, and most importantly time. So far that’s what has worked for me.

Are there any future plans for your line?

- My notebooks are filled with the future to the brand. But as for the most recent stuff coming out, new Hats, Jewelry, plush dolls, toys, screen printed posters and many more accessories. The possibilities are endless.

How did you hear about FKN Famous and what do you think of us?

- I really enjoy reading online blogs specially ones that feature really cool articles like this one, hehe. I have a folder filled with links in my web browser that I call “EveryDay” in here are all the links I check on a daily bases, FKN Famous is that folder, I check it every day.

Any last shout outs?

- Always, to the Vidaurrazaga family for believing in me and the brand, my girl and kid which I love with all my heart and lastly to all the DIMEX fans who have been there since day one. Gracias, also FKN Famous for giving me this opportunity to share the brands message through their page. Thank You. Remember “LUCHA Y VIVE”
