So tell us a little bit about yourself?

– We are a group made up of 2 brothers, Mark and Mike Longhelt, but also accompanied by our drummer, Joel Lewis, who happens to be our cousin. We keep it strictly in the fam! hahaha!

We have a passion for music and have been in multiple projects separately before deciding to join forces and create ELIM.

Our previous bands were both quite different than the sound we have created with ELIM. Mike was the front man for “Dreaming of Eden” which was very rock/screamo based. With comparisons to ‘Saosin’ and ‘From First To Last’ and Mark fronted “The Common Threat” which drew comparisons to ‘Rage Against The Machine’. ELIM is strictly pop/hip hop/electronica and is the type of music that we feel just makes you want to get up and dance. With hooks that get stuck in your head, beats that are driving, and lyrics with purpose behind them we honestly feel that this is the perfect remedy to make quite an impact on the musical world and pop culture as a whole.

What inspired you to start singing?

– Mike- “we grew up in a musical family, and for me it was when our sister, Christy, came in my room one day and was like “i bet you could be a good singer” so since she had been taking voice lessons she took the time to teach me the basics, and when i realized i didn’t totally suck (lol) i really enjoyed it and began pursuing musical endeavors.”

Mark- “well being a rapper and with my raspy voice it’s probably best that nothing inspires me to actually sing! lol! but as far as my inspiration for music and getting started rapping i can remember as a little kid my parents having a mixtape of old motown songs that our dad had made for our mom, and i was just really drawn to that style of music. So from there it just led to me listening to a lot of old school rap, and i would memorize the lyrics to all of the songs which led me to going out and buying hip-hop single instrumentals, putting them on one cd player while i had another recording my freestyles. Pretty darn ghetto but it worked and i had tons of tapes of myself rapping that i gave out to friends of mine, and that’s kinda when i started writing my rhymes down, and haven’t stopped writing yet! lol

Were there any hard challenges you had to face in the industry?

– Mark- “it’s all been a challenge you know? lol! Just getting our name out there and grinding everyday to take over the world! lol but there’s nothing else we’d rather be doing than pursuing our dreams. that’s what life is all about right?? it’s a cut throat industry where only the best survive, but we’ve been SO incredibly blessed with a support system of family and friends that really believe in our God given talents and us as people. It’s them that really drives us and makes us who we are and who we hope to become.

What ways have you found was the best way to promote yourself?

– Mike- “we’ve found that the single best way of promotion is word of mouth. Just having people tell everyone that they know about us and what we are doing really is where it’s at. Well that and having amazing folks like you guys at FKN Famous being on our team and showing us some love! 😉

What would be your most memorable moment while singing?

– Mark- “for me it would have to be my first time taking the stage! lol! not a whole lot of things more nerve racking than that! To be honest there is still a little bit of that every time before a performance, and i hope that i never lose that emotion and feeling of wanting to put on the best show i can for every person that took the time to come out to our show.

Mike- “Good question! There are SO many to choose from, but I’d have to say the first show on tour in El Paso Texas. It was no longer a local thing anymore, and we were far away from home playing for a whole new audience. Very memorable.

Are there any goals that you would like to achieve?

– Mike- “Other than a #1 album? lol! Basically just being in a position to be able to make music as a long term career, and a world tour wouldn’t hurt either! haha!

Mark- “yeah we just want to be able to make music even a bigger part of our lives than it already is! Just continue to make better and better tracks that keep folks coming back for more! So getting signed to a major label, playing shows constantly, writing writing writing writing, and yeah that world tour would work for me too! hahaha

What can we expect from you in the future?

– Mark- “Only bigger and better things! BIG shows, KILLER tracks, GROWING fan base! Trying to take over the world for real! haha”

Are there any upcoming albums you are releasing?

– Mike- “Well considering our style of music and our desire to constantly have a new, bigger, and better product we’ve decided to go the route of releasing a new single every couple weeks with each of them having 4 or 5 remixes that our DJ friends from across the country have been kind enough to help us out with! The cool thing about doing it this way is that as soon as we’re ready to release a new one we put the previous one up on our Facebook page or our Soundcloud page for FREE download! And who doesn’t like free stuff right? haha!

What do you think of FKN Famous?

– Mark- “We love you guys! The site itself is fantastic, and it’s such a breath of fresh air to have a company that is committed to artists/models and just the whole scene in general. Thank you all so much for what you’re doing!”

Any last shout outs?

– We just wanna thank our family and friends that make up our fan base! We love you all more than our meager words could ever convey! Specifically our parents who have supported us through every single thing we’ve done. Whether it be music or just life in general! HUGE thanks to our manager, Mike Lewis, for all the work that he has put in! That dude is the hardest working man in the industry! lol!

DJ Chris Styles from SIRIUS XM and HOT 99.5 here in D.C. he has become a great friend and has really believed in our sound and what we are working so hard to accomplish!

DJ Benny Stixx for the SICK remix he did of our single “Say Yes”! Stay grindin son!

Dustin Reagan and Kyle McAndrew for being the most tolerable roommates ever and dealing with our SUPER loud practices and recording sessions! hahaha!!

Also ALL of the other DJs and artists that have been SO incredibly kind and helpful by making remixes for us! We love yall and Thank you SO much!

And last but. of course, not least we’d like to thank you all at FKN Famous for showing us some love! Stay doing what you do!
