Once under the P12 designation, McLaren Automotive lifted the cloak of secrecy on its P1 design study finally. The successor to the McLaren F1, the super car which set 1998 world record as the fastest road going car at 231 mph, the McLaren P1 hinted at design influences from McLaren’s current model, the MP4-12C. In a prepared statement, Antony Sheriff, Managing Director of McLaren Automotive, explained that “…our aim is not necessarily to be the fastest in absolute top speed but to be the quickest and most rewarding series production road car on a circuit…” He also added “…our goal is to make the McLaren P1 the most exciting, most capable, most technologically advanced and most dynamically accomplished supercar ever made…” No doubt those are lofty expectations and while no details on the powertrain are given at this time, early speculative reports indicate a 3.8-liter V8 with a Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) for a total output of 963 horsepower. That translates to a 0 to 62 mph time of just 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 239 mph. Possible availability to come in 2013, details to come on September 27th when McLaren Automotive officially unveils the P1 at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. via – freshnessmag
