- Packaging : Arriving at our doorstep was a package from our good friends over at College Fresh Clothing. The package arrived in a flat rate mailer via USPS. As always USPS has been a great affordable way of shipping. Inside the mailer we were greeted by some product from College Fresh Clothing. They weren’t in poly bags, which is perfectly fine. The clothing did arrive fresh, clean and ready to wear. So overall College Fresh Clothing did a pretty decent job with the packaging and presentation of their product.

- Extras : Aside from the clothing, where wasn’t really any extras included. Which is perfectly fine, maybe in the future they will include something.

- Design : The designs were pretty simple and clean. I really love the simplicity of their designs as well as the color choice they’ve went with. College Fresh Clothing also included inner sizing printing, which made a great touch to the apparel. The detail in the artwork was pretty legit as well. So overall College Fresh Clothing did a pretty good job with everything.

- Quality : The overall quality of the clothing was on point. The garment choice was on point as well. They are very comfy and pretty light to wear. College Fresh Clothing has always been friendly and helpful since the first day we’ve met them. If ever you are looking for some great apparel, you should definitely look into College Fresh Clothing. The packaging of the Ingear case was very unique, simple and clean. It displayed the product very well, and showcased some key information about the product as well. So overall Ingear did a pretty cool job with the packaging and presentation of the product.

- Extras : Aside from the actual product there wasn’t any extras included such as a business card, flier or etc. Which is perfectly fine, maybe in the future they will include something. Inside the actual packaging of the product there was a few goodies included such as some screen protectors, cleaning cloths, and extra buttons to change the ones on the case.

- Design : The design was pretty simple. It features a manufactured from flexible, lightweight, yet durable material. It’s minimalistic design with maximum appeal. You have complete protection for all your buttons. As well as easy access to your buttons and ports. The back side is open, but that’s where the extra screen protectors come in play that Ingear has included. So all though it’s just a case/band around your phone. You are still getting maximum protection to prevent your phone from being scratch. So overall, the design of this product was very well thought.

- Quality : The overall quality of the case was pretty decent. My only main concern was the little troubles getting it on the actual phone. The fear of it snapping easy. Then again, if you have a full body shield on your phone it may be a little difficult. But other than that it’s a pretty awesome case. The staff over at Ingear, was super friendly and helpful when they first introduced us to their products. With that being said, if ever you are looking for a cool case for your phone. Ingear has got you covered; FKN Famous would highly recommend them. They’ve got a lot of great unique cases. Definitely can’t wait to see what they will come out with next!

So tell us about your brand?

- Hello everyone! Shinobi Wear is a new brand of streetwear clothing. At the moment the company consists of just two people: me – the founder and the designer, and my wife Julia – an artist and the production manager. At its core, Shinobi Wear is about combining creative design and a practical approach. Our idea is to create original unique designer clothing that could be mass-produced without sacrificing any of the details.

How did you come up with the name?

- We came up with the name on a whim. You could say that it was in gestation even before the creation of Shinobi as a brand. It’s one of the interpretations of the Japanese symbol “Nin”. It was often used in connection with ninja. But the symbol itself has many other meanings as well: persistence, perseverance, mysteriousness, enigma. We like this word, especially considering that our first collection was strongly inspired by the ninja image.

What were you doing before launching your brand?

- Between 2002 and 2005, I worked as a concept artist and art director in computer games industry. Then I changed my specialization and went into advertising. For 5 years I worked as the art director at one of the biggest advertising agencies with big and world famous brands. Julia was a professional calligraphist, and put a lot of time and effort into perfecting her technique. During this time, we worked together on various creative projects, like putting on live painting performances. This helped us gain a lot of experience and apply it to our brand.

When did you begin thinking about launching your own clothing brand?

- This actually happened when we were planning one of our shows. We wanted to create an interesting project – add something new to it. That’s how we got the idea to put on a small theatrical performance, featuring actors, dancers, musicians, and us. We wanted to make cool costumes for everyone, ones that would be completely comfortable for the actors and the dancers, all while being fresh and fall in place with the rest of the show. When our first pieces were ready, we received a lot of great feedback, and we realized that we want to bring these ideas to life. On November 16th of 2010, Julia and I were sitting in a café and were talking about my sketches for the costumes. That’s when the idea came to us, that we should start our own clothing company. That’s the date of Shinobi Wear’s conception.

What best describes your line & who is it targeted to?

- Just four words: originality, comfort, craftsmanship, and practicality (as in, made for everyday use rather than runways). We never set out to create clothing for anyone in particular. It’s more like we do what we like, what we see as missing somewhere else, and what we would like to wear ourselves. With all of its originality, first and foremost our clothes are made for daily wear. That’s why anyone could wear it. Some people like their unusual and unique cut, some like the comfort, and others like the athletic “ninja” style. We don’t want to create or conform to stereotypes or clichés – that’s why anyone can find something that they will like.

What influenced you to start this line?

- We’re inspired by many things. Clearly, both traditional and modern Asian culture has been tremendously important. There’s a lot of futurism in my designs. I like to study various traditions and filter them through my own vision and perception. I still approach our pieces as a concept artist. I like to find forms, create details and accents. It’s a difficult but very fun process. Sometimes it’s more like developing costumes for science fiction movies, than for everyday life. We chose our direction and remain leftfield of the fashion industry and shows. But there are definitely brands that we like and that have influenced us. Like JNBY, for instance. A few years ago I also had a sweatshirt by Addict. For me, these guys served as an example of great quality and attention to detail.

How is your brand different from others out there?

- The main difference is the creativity of our designs. We develop all of our pieces from scratch, and never use any ready-made templates or patterns. We think through and engineer our own cuts, and test the prototypes ourselves, so that our pieces turn out as comfortable as possible. Each of our items has unique design solutions that make it stand out from the others. For example, the hood and the side seams of our Scout hoodie are unique and unparalleled in the world. That is why we stay away from using prints: we believe that our clothes are a work of art in themselves.

Are there any challenges you run into while running a business?

- Just about every day. This is an interesting but difficult endeavor. So far there are only two of us, which allows us to focus on maintaining the highest quality. But our brand is rapidly growing, and it’s becoming more and more difficult to do everything by ourselves.

What ways did you find promoting your brand worked?

- I learned a lot from working in the advertisement industry. I believe that an original and high-quality product requires a lot less advertising than others. In our case, it’s enough to let someone try on our stuff. Of course, I must say that approach to this business in Russia and in the west is very different. That’s why it’s hard to work with two essentially different markets. We have a website, facebook and twitter, and we try to provide as much information about our products as we can on our website and our web store. People email us with a lot of questions, so I try to respond accurately and quickly help them choose the right size, and answer any other questions. We collaborate on various projects with our friends’ companies. Last year we designed three snowboards for our friends Lucky Snowboards (luckysnowboards.com). Also, at the moment we’re working on a limited edition line of t-shirts featuring prints from our artist friends from a few different countries.

Are there any future plans for your line?

- We have some ambitious plans. Our brand is quickly growing. We see many cool projects and collaborations ahead, and more clothing for men and women. Some will be available not too far off, just by the end of the summer.

How did you hear about FKN Famous & what do you think of us?

- I really liked the site. A good and practical design + great content. The guys at FKN Famous know what they’re doing!
